Benefits and Features

What does a pricing calculator actually do?

A pricing calculator (also commonly referred to as a quote calculator, cost estimator, or quote generator) is an interactive tool which allows potential customer to produce instant quotes or estimates based on their specific requirements.

A good pricing calculator should be able to be either designed or configured to represent the specific pricing model (or pricing methods) of that specific business, and provide potential customers with a sufficient range of options to allow them to select combinations of quantities, sizes, lengths, and other variants to meet their needs.

Some pricing calculators, including those which TargaWeb develops, can also provide cost breakdowns, split payment options, dynamic messaging, etc., and also allow the customer to email the quote to themselves as well as to the business.

What kind of features can be included in a quote calculator?

Online quote calculators can be useful for many types of businesses. They can provide customers with the means to select items, services, sizes, quantities, etc., and then calculate a final price based on the values you provide.

Some quote calculators, like those from TargaWeb, can also allow the customer to email the quote to themselves, and provide you with a copy of that quote too. This can make them great for lead generation.

What are the benefits of having a custom quote calculator?

Apart from them being able to provide instant quotes for your customers 24/7, an online quote calculator can promote trust, and also promote other services which potential customers hadn't realised you offer.

It could also save you time and effort through not having to wasting time chasing leads that go nowhere. Your online price calculator can reduce that burden by doing the qualifying for you, allowing you to free up time to focus on doing what you do best and deliver a great service.

You can also track who generated each quote, enabling you to follow up as a warm lead.

How can a quote calculator improve conversions?

If you consider that a high proportion of website visitors want to know how much this thing, product or service will cost, and also what that price includes, it makes sense to help them to quickly and easily find those answers.

This is especially important for potential customers who want to find those answers there and then, so they can make an informed decision without having to pick up the phone during office hours to speak with a sales person.

Without a quote calculator or price estimator on your website, that potential customer might decide to move on and find someone who is prepared to help them to determine the cost. Trust plays a very important role in this process.

Are pricing calculators for customers, sales teams or both?

Pricing calculators are suitable for both customers and sales teams. But they can be even more flexible if the calculator has been designed to recognise whether it is being used by a potential customer or a member of your team.

This dynamic distinction between customers and employees can enable the calculator to display specific options, such as the name of the employee who is providing the quote, or different options or methods of selection which are considered to be more appropriate for the type of user.

But these distinctions between customers and sales teams is only possible if the pricing calculator has been designed in that way. TargaWeb will always provide that option, and can produce pricing calculators specifically to the requirements of your business.

If you already have a website, you could ask your web designer to build you an online calculator.

Some web designers might use an off-the-shelf plug-in if your website has been build using WordPress or some other website builder platform, but if you're fortunate enough to have a web designer who can understand and write code, they might be able to build a bespoke quote calculator for you.

Of course TargaWeb can build you a bespoke cost calculator which can be applied directly to your website, or we could build a calculator on your behalf which your web designer could add to your website.

TargaWeb makes it really easy to add your new calculator to your website. Your web designer will simply need to add a small piece of code so that the calculator can be made visible to visitors of your website.

We can of course help and advise with that process.

Can a calculator be added to more than one website?

In some respects, a TargaWeb calculator can be added to more than one website.

However, it's important to understand that because there is a trust element in the way that we control the height of the parent page iFrame window on your domain based on the individual calculator pages which are hosted on TargaWeb's domain.

Without that trust element being applied between your domain and TargaWeb's domain, there will be no automated control over the iFrame height whilst the calculator is in use.

Can a cost calculator be added to a WordPress website?

Yes. TargaWeb have successfully devised a way for our cost calculators to be applied to WordPress websites.

It isn't difficult, and we can help you by guiding you through the process and testing.

How do I know that my calculator will work?

If you have any doubts that a pricing calculator will work on your website, simply get in touch and ask for the implementation tag to a demo version, and you will also be sent the implementation guide which will take you or your web designer through the simple steps to be taken.

If you are asking whether your specific calculator will work as you intend it to, please remember that it will be design and configured for you based on your requirements and your pricing model, and you’ll also get to test is as many times as you want before it goes live.

Design and Styling

Can the calculator be styled to match my website?

Yes. During the design of your calculator we will analyse the styling elements of your website and replicate them on your calculator. That will ensure that your calculator's colours, styling, fonts, etc., are consistent with your website.

Suitability

Are cost calculators suitable for all businesses?

Online cost calculators are not an ideal replacement for businesses who could use a simple static price list, because their functionality and the costs involved to build it, would... in reality... be a waste of time and money.

However, they could be perfect for businesses who provide services, bundled options, and factor in other criteria such as multiple selections, order value, distance, frequency, ease of access, and any number of other factors which have the potential to impact the cost in some way.

Types of Calculators

Does TargaWeb only make bespoke calculators?

Although TargaWeb does produce bespoke cost calculators, it is understandable that some businesses need to keep their own costs down and would prefer to have a lower priced calculator instead of spending on a fully bespoke solution.

Therefore for clients on a tight budget, we try to accommodate the most important aspects of their prices and pricing structure within partially pre-built templates.

This enables costs to be keep down, without compromising too much on what the business needs the most.

Hosting and Management

Where will the calculator be hosted?

TargaWeb has a sister web platform at targacalc.com

targacalc.com is the technical and hosting platform for most of the calculators that we build.

Your calculator will be displayed seamlessly on your website by using an iFrame, which will allow your calculator to look like is an integral part of you website, and not a bolt-on extra which looks out of place.

Will I need to move my website to TargaWeb so I can have a calculator?

No, you won't need to switch your website over to be managed by TargaWeb.

We'll do all we can to make it easy for your current web designer to add the calculator, but it is a fact of life that some web designers these days lack the technical skills to work within the code of a website.

If in doubt, we can do trial implementation with your current web designer to determine whether it's feasible for them to add the calculator. However, once the calculator code has been added, we can manage the calculator without having to involve your current web designer.
