Number of pages

Minimum page quantity: Single page websites can prove to be quite ineffective in search engine results, and can appear to be disproportionately expensive compared to a website with a similar amount of content spread over 3 or more dedicated pages. For this reason we set out minimum page quantity at 3 pages.

The quantity you select should include the homepage and all other pages excluding:

Gallery/portfolio pages: If you decide to have gallery or portfolio pages on your website, because their construction is likely to be different to other content pages, please select them from the option below instead of including them in the page quantity you’re selecting here.

Privacy policy page: You can choose to include a policy page by selecting it separately in the option below.

Initial setup costs included: Note that there is a fixed initial setup and administration cost factored into the page quantity cost. You will therefore find that additional pages cost proportionately less.

Domain name needed

---

You decide on the domain name you want to use, and we can get it registered for you provided that it has not already been taken. We can check availability for you.

Duration: Domain names are renewable every 1, 2 or 3 years, depending on the option you select. You can opt for up to 10 years if you wish, but most people stick to between 1 and 3 years, and renew when the time comes.

For the purpose of this cost estimate calculation, only a 1 year option has been presented for different domain types. Just ask if you want to register your domain for additional years and your quote will be adjusted accordingly.

Renewal: Renewal cost will usually be between £12 and £22 per year, but this will depend on the domain, and whether for example you choose a .co.uk domain, a .com domain or some other variation.

Premium domain names: If you happen to choose a domain which is a premium domain which can cost premium rates outside of our control, we will let you know.

Hosting

---

We will host your website for free on our server space for the first year.

After the first year, the cost to host your site will be in the region of about £75 per year based on current rates.

Rates are set by the hosting company, but we will communicate up-to-date costs to you 4 weeks before this is due.

Rest assured that we always shop around for the best value hosting packages to give you the best value for money. This is not just to find the cheapest, but we also choose based on reliability, speed, etc.

Secure website (SSL)

To help reduce the risk of hacking and other malicious practices, all websites should be secure and have a valid SSL Certificate.

This especially important when using forms on your website to allow people to contact you, or submit anything containing personal identifiable data (PID)

We therefore always include SSL as standard.

Note that Google considers SSL to be essential for websites, and therefore places great importance on this when ranking a website for inclusion in search engine results.

Responsive Websites

---

A responsive website is a website which has been designed to display and function correctly on a range of screen sizes and devices, including mobiles.

Correctly sized images: Besides using very different layouts for desktop and mobile display, a well designed responsive website is also likely to use smaller versions of images on mobile phones.

This helps to make web pages load more quickly by not having to download larger quantities of data over a mobile phone network.

Mobile friendly websites: With more than 60% of all network traffic now using mobile devices, it makes sense to build mobile friendly websites, and that's why Targa does this as standard.

Basic contact form

Most (not all) websites benefit from allowing visitors to make contact via a contact form.

What's included: A basic form enabling the capture of name, email address and phone number. A comments box will be included, and it comes with anti-spam protection.

Specific requirements: If you need specific form features on your contact form, or additional forms with specific functionality, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Search Engine Submission

Without visitors your website could be considered pointless, and it could be very detrimental to your business if it depends on your website's success.

As part of our standard service, all websites are submitted to search engines such as Google and Bing.

XML Sitemap: Besides the submission of your website, all of the pages on your website will be listed in a special XML sitemap file to make it even easier for search engines to find those pages. This file will also include other information about each web page, such as the date it was last modified.

1 month SEO

---

SEO (or Search Engine Optimisation) is the process of using strategies to get more people to visit your website.

As standard, Targa will always consider SEO when building each web page, and also in the structure of your website. It’s not just in the words you see on the page, but how the page is structured behind the scenes.

But that's just the start...

1 month SEO: The one month SEO included in your package will take place during the first 4 weeks after your website goes live, to check that your pages are being indexed by Google and displaying in search results.

The aim of this exercise is to get your website and all relevant pages registered with Google and Bing. But although submitting pages to search engines is one part of the process, competitor analysis and keyword analysis is really important.

Some points to remember: Search engines are free for organic (un-paid) search, and therefore they despite our efforts, search engines are not obliged to index all of the pages which are submitted.

Therefore SEO for organic search results can take time... weeks, months and longer... so to have this first month included in your website package should get you off to a good start. Further SEO work can be carried out if required.

XML Sitemap

An XML sitemap is a special file which neither you nor your customers get to see when visiting your website, but is considered to be really important to search engines.

All of the pages on your website will be listed with the XML sitemap, along with other information about each page, such as the date it was last modified.

Why this is important: The XML Sitemap (usually one for each website) will be registered with the search engines, and they will be frequently re-crawled by the search engines as they scan for any new or updated pages.

Keeping up to date: For this reason whenever a new page is added to your website, or when any of the existing pages are updated, your XML Sitemap will be updated to reflect those changes, ready for when the search engines re-crawl it.

Email Addresses

Email address which are based on your domain name such as info@targaweb.com and daron@targaweb.com tend to look more professional than those email addresses which end in @hotmail.com, @gmail.com, @yahoo.com, etc

You will have the option of having email addresses based on your domain name. For cost estimate purpose you can choose how many you think you'll need.

The number you select here can be used as a guide. Before we start you can choose to have more of fewer email addresses if you wish, and you can always have more email addresses added over the course of time.

Logo for your website

---

It makes sense for website to display the logo of a company, usually (but not always) in the top left of each page.

It might seem a small thing, but how the logo is obtained can make a huge difference to the time it takes to apply.

For example if you already have a logo in digital format which can be emailed over to Targa, that should be pretty quick to prepare for use on your website.

However, sometimes people provide a business card or letter head which needs to be scanned and then prepared for use on PhotoShop.

Sometimes a logo might need to be created from scratch, and that is usually the most time consuming method.

As you can appreciate, the difference in the above methods can have an impact on the length of time a logo can take to be applied to your website, and that can have a slight bearing on the cost.

Note that it is common practice for the logo to link back to the website's homepage, so this link will be implemented as standard, unless you instruct otherwise.

Gallery / Portfolio pages

If you decide to have gallery or portfolio pages on your website, their construction will be different to other pages. This is because image preparation (often thumbnail, desktop and mobile versions for each image) take time to prepare.

In additional, the layout of the thumbnail images in a grid or list format (which is often a different display style for mobiles) takes time, and these are often required to be linked to larger versions of the images so they can be viewed in an overlay on the page (also commonly referred to as a modal or lightbox.

The selection of the number of images in the website cost calculator is just for a guide, so don't worry if you don't know the exact quantity when you use the calculator...

Just select what feels closest to what you might need.

NOTE: Because gallery and portfolio pages are priced differently to 'regular' content pages, when you select the number of pages required on your website (that is the first option on the cost calculator), please do not include gallery or portfolio in the 'Number of pages' option.

These are often useful for improving customer experience, because cookies can be used to remember that the customer has visited before, and perhaps remember some of the selections or preferences they made, which might frustrate them if they had to make those same selections all over again.

Open Graph content

When you insert a link into an email, or a post on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc,. have you noticed how many of these links cause an image and descriptive content to appear just below that link?

This doesn't happen just like that but by the presence of open graph tags.

You can probably see here that there are benefits to having a visual and informative way of displaying information about that link to anyone who views your post or email.

Schema Content

Have you noticed that when some websites appear in search engine results, some of them are displayed with images or additional?

Some of that additional information might be the answer to a question that the searcher has entered into Google. Sometimes it might be the image of a product, hotel room, or something to draw more attention to that page.

Needless to say, such links in search engine results stand a higher chance of getting clicked on, but their display doesn't happen automatically.

They are the result of that specific web page containing what is known as Schema markup and the type of markup that page contains needs to be appropriate for the type of page.

Favicon
