We understand that not everyone has the capacity to sit and write their own website content, whilst others will insist on writing every word. To make life as easy as possible for you where your website content is concerned, Targa has two options...

Option 1 - We create your content:

If you don't have the time, capacity or inclination to produce the content for your website, we could do it for you!

Because of the additional research and content preparation we would have to do on your behalf, this done-for-you content option would of course come at an additional cost. But it can save you a lot of time that you might not have, and all you'd need to do is approve the content so you're happy with what your website is saying about you and your business!

Here's a quick breakdown of the process...

• Initial questions and instructions: We have an initial discussion where you get to tell us about your business, services, objectives, etc. This stage is important, because we need to understand where you're at and where you want to go so we can help you get there!
• Research: Based on our initial discussion, we carry out research, competitor analysis, and familiarise ourselves with the subject matter relevant to your business and goals.
• Create: Based on our research, we'll create draft content which we believe closely meets your requirements. This draft will be set out in a Word document with styling which could suit individual pages and sections of your website.
• Review: You get a few days to read the content we have prepared, and you can then send back your feedback with any suggestions or instructions to amend any of the content.
• Tweak: We take those suggestions and instructions and apply them to your content.
• Build: We then start building your new website based around the content described in the previous steps. If we have any questions during that process, we'll ask.
• Website review: When we feel that your new website is ready for you to see, we'll send you a link so that you can review it. You can look at it on desktop, mobile or both (the choice is entirely yours)
• Sign Off: If you're happy with what we have done for you, including the content which has been applied to your website, we ask you to confirm before we're able to publish your new site for the world to see.
• 30 day review window: During the first 30 days after your website has gone live, you'll have the freedom to let us know if you need any minor tweaks to be made. These will typically be content based, and will be carried out free of charge.

Option 2 - You supply the content:

Because you're the expert in your field, it is always better for you to say what you want to say about your business and services. But everyone can get stuck for words at times, so we can guide you with some suggestions and prompts.

If you would prefer to supply your own content, please select from one of the lower priced website packages which are do not include the content service.

Photos and Images for your website

The more unique your website is and the closer it represensents your business, the better.

Where photos are concerned, it would be better for a number of reason if you're able to provide good quality photos of your work, premises, office space, vans, or whatever you feel is appropriate to make your website look more unique.

However, not everyone has the ability to take great photos, and would prefer us to source suitable images for them.

Obviously this can take time, but we're happy to do this for you by sourcing a selection of suitable images from a stock photo library.

What is it for?

Your homepage can introduce your business, and outline the range of services you offer in the town or area that you operate in.

What's the benefit to me?

All websites have a homepage. It sets the scene and in many cases it will be the first page that people will see. Therefore if visitors to your website find the homepage confusing, overwhelming, or if they don't like it for any reason, they won't stick around for long and it's game over!

What is it for?

Showcase your work: These pages are where you can use a number of images and descriptions to showcase your work. We can also use these pages to focus on the main town or area that you operate in. Ultimately the content and images that these pages display is your choice.

It is recommended that at least a couple of pages should be dedicated to the services you provide.

What's the benefit to me?

Stand out from the crowd: By showcasing your services, work, skills and expertise, you get the chance to stand out from your competition. Therefore good images (photos) and descriptive content can really help.

What else can I use them for?

Expertise: If you have specific areas of expertise or something which makes you stand out from your competitors, these pages would be perfect to highlight those specialised skills and services.

Getting found: Your services pages will become very significant for search engines. The aim will be to get them listed as high as possible in search results for search terms such as plumber in Stevenage, EV charging installer in Grantham or garden lighting specialist in Cambridge

Videos: Videos are also proving to be a popular way of displaying examples of your work, so if you have any videos on YouTube or other platforms, we could embed them into your website.

Contact form: It is also common practice to include a contact form at the bottom of service pages, because this makes it far easier for users to take action there and then and get in touch without having to navigate around your website to locate a contact form.

Certifications: It could also be worth listing any relevant qualifications or certifications, along with the reassurance that you have any appropriate insurances in place.

Contact Details: The contact page will typically include your details and links for your email, phone number (landline and mobile if you want), and also a booking calendar if you choose to make use of one.

Social Media: Many businesses use social media platforms to promote themselves, help to build their brand and reach out to new or existing clients and followers. Therefore we can also add links to your X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages if you have them.

Hours of Business: The contact page can also be a logical place to display your hours of business, if relevant.

What's the benefit to me?

Simplifying things for customers: Contact forms make it very easy for customers to get in touch.

Capturing Information: Your contact form will typically include fields for your potential customers contact name, email address, phone number, and a comments box. Whenever someone submits your contact form, the information they provide will be safely and securely delivered directly to your preferred email address within seconds.

Hosting... where your website lives

We will host your website for free on our server space for the first year, unless you choose to take the monthly subscription plan, in which case your website will behosted for two years without you having to renew during that period.

After the first year (or after the 2nd year for monthly subscription customers), the cost to host your site will be approximately £75 per year based on current prices.

Rates are set by the hosting company, but we will communicate up to date costs 4 weeks before renewal is due. Rest assured that we always shop around for the best value hosting packages to give you the best value for money.

Domain name... your website's address

We will include your domain name in the cost of your package.

Domain names are registered through a third party, and are renewable on a 12-24 month basis. After the first 12 months the renewal cost will usually be between £15 and £20, but this will depend on the domain, and whether for example you choose a .co.uk domain, a .com domain or some other variation.

If you happen to choose a domain which is a premium domain (which can cost silly money a bit like prestige number plates), we will let you know.

Desktop/Laptop Users

We follow the best practice of providing easy access of your phone number and email address throughout the website, so that wherever your customer is on your site, they can easily find your contact details and click on them to make a call or send an email.

The ability to book a call or meeting via an online calendar is also very useful, as are contact forms.

Mobile Users

Click to Call and Click to Mail buttons provide neat and very easy way for users on mobile phones to contact you at the press of a button.

What's the benefit to me?

Brand consistency: The colour scheme, images, logo and content will be your choice. This enables your website to look have consistency with your brand.

There will be some simple guidelines to follow which will make your part in the process as straight forward as possible, and these will be clearly set out by email when you enquire about any of our fixed price web design packages.

Why is this important?

Increase in mobile use: There are now more people surfing the net on their mobiles than on their desktops or laptop. It is therefore considered best practice for web designers to take a mobile first approach to building websites, which means that you'll be catering for the growing majority of internet users.

Responsive websites: ALL of the websites we produce are responsive which means that they're designed to load quickly and work on a range of screen sizes, devices and screen orientations, including mobiles.

What are landing pages?

Whilst your website will be able to provide information about your businesses and services, it is advisable to also make use of landing pages which can act as standalone pages which are very specific in their objective.

Why are landing pages useful?

Specific purpose: Landing pages can be used to reach potential customers who are looking specifically for the things each landing page covers, and make it easy for them to respond to advertisements, posters, flyers, email campaigns, etc.

Encourage action: Landing pages should encourage action from the customer whilst on that landing page, instead of allowing them to become distracted by exploring the remainder of your website.

Landing pages are great for promotions, offers, getting people to sign up to a mailing list, and many other purposes. Their overall objective is to help increase conversions, which in layman’s terms means getting more businesses!

Targeting specific locations: Landing pages can also be used for targeting potential customers in specific areas, towns or villages. For example if you're roofing company in Hertfordshire, you could benefit from having dedicated pages targeting customers in towns such as Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth. That way you'll stand a better chance of being found in the search engines when people from those town search for a business like yours.

What is it for?

Easy appointment setting: Booking calendars make it easy for people to book an appointment with you. This option will integrate with your calendar, showing customers when you're available for a call, and allowing them to go ahead and book a time slot with you.

What's the benefit to me?

Showing when you're available: It's like having a personal assistant to book appointments on your behalf, becuase it can show customers your free time slots and allow them to choose one which suits them.

These time slots can be used for phone or video calls, for consultations, sales calls, quotations... you name it!

What else should I know?

Free to use: Once set up it's free to use, and you'll have complete control over the messaging and length of time slots offered.

Integration: We can offer intergration with either Cal.com or Calendly, so you simply need to tell us if you have a preference or we can help you choose.

What is it for?

Our Silver and Gold packages include 1 hour per week for 4 weeks to monitor your new website's progress with Google and make any necessary adjustments.

It will also include a weekly analysis of your website through the Ahrefs analysis tool.

What's the benefit to me?

This initial post-launch monitoring and analysis will help to ensure that as many of your web pages as possible are indexed by Google, and during that 4 week period we'll be able to see how they're performing in searches for relevant keywords.

Ahrefs analysis tool will provide feedback on the general health of your website. Each week it will automatically crawl your website and will provide a report which we will review and act on accordingly.

Why is it important?

Compliance: Since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rules were tightened a few years ago, certain things became mandatory, including consent for tracking and cookie usage on a website, amongst other things.

A bonus!

We will always provide a privacy policy page with your website in addition to all of the other pages on your website.

Your privacy policy page will be branded and formatted to match all of your other web pages.

What is SSL?

Security: All websites these days should be secure. This should be evident by the display of a padlock in the address bar of the browser, and a web address which begins with https instead of just http

What is it for?

Working in the background: The sitemap is a special file in a format called XML. You won't physically see the XML sitemap on your website, but it will be sitting in the background as a reference map of your website and all the pages it contains.

What's the benefit to me?

Helping search engines: The main purpose of this sitemap file is to help Google and other search engines recognise each page on your website, and indentify new and updated pages too. This means that Google, Bing, etc., will get to know about your latest website changes.

It is therefore important for us to manage this file, keeping it up to date and monitoring it through Google Search Console. The search engines will crawl your sitemap regularly to ensure that the information they store about your web pages is as current as possible.

What is it?

Your Google Business Profile (formally known as Google My Business) can include not only your business name, but where you're based, the services you offer, the towns and villages you work in, hours you work, contact details, etc.

What's the benefit to me?

Putting you on the map: A Google Business Profile listing will literally put your business on the map!

It will enable your business to stand out in search results, especially in local searches.

You're in control: Once this has been set up we can provide guidance on how you can manage the information in a Google Business Profile for yourself if you want to have control over that information. Alternatively you might prefer that we manage this for you.

What are Open Graph Tags?

A professional touch: Whenever a link to your website or one of its pages is used in emails, social media posts, etc., Open Graph tags can allow that link to automatically display with an image and a description of the page. This makes it look far more professional than just displaying a link.

For those applications which support OG tags, your website will look something like this.

What is it for?

Who wants to see an ugly error message? A 404 error code is something which happens on the server when a web page is missing.

There are several reasons why this can happen during the lifetime of a website, such as if a page is moved, removed or renamed.

What's the benefit to me?

Keeping hold of your visitors: Instead of visitors to your website seeing an error message which might cause that potential customer to leave your website, we will offer you the following options:

• We can either display a page styled and branded like your other web pages, and provide links to other sections and pages of your website.
• Or we can automatically redirect the user to your homepage. This redirect will seamlessly take the user immediately to your homepage instead of them seeing an error page.

We certainly don't come up with the names of some of these features, but a Favicon is the little image you sometimes see in a web browser tab, like the examples below.

A touch of class: It is one of those small details which will add to the professionalism of your website.

Search Engine Management: Google Search Console is where your website and each of its pages can be submitted to Google, and managed on an ongoing basis throughout the life of your website.

What's the benefit to me?

We will set up an account for your website in Google Search Console, where we will be able to submit your site and monitor progress of each page to see how they’re ranking.

This foundation work will be included as part of your fixed price business's website package, and will go hand in hand with the optional analysis we can subsequently conduct in Google Analytics for your website as part of our SEO services.
